Pool rules and swimming guidelines

For the safety and enjoyment of everyone, please follow these important rules:

  • Swim test: A lifeguard may ask any swimmer to take a swim test for the deep end

  • Non-swimmers: Anyone who cannot pass the swim test or show comfort in the water must stay in the shallow end

  • Deep end: No floatation devices are allowed

  • Supervision for children under 10: A guardian who is at least 12 years old must directly supervise them at all times

  • Group leaders: Are responsible for directly supervising all children in their care and must have emergency contact information

  • Capacity: The maximum total capacity for the pool and deck is 316 people

Wristbands

We use a wristband system to help ensure children have a safe and fun swimming experience. The rules vary by age group. The wristbands help our staff quickly identify children who may need closer supervision in the pool area

For children under 6 years:

  • You must be in the water, within arm's reach of the children at all times

  • Children must stay in the shallow end

  • Guardian-to-child ratio:

    • 1 guardian for every 2 children without life jackets.

    • 1 guardian for every 4 children with life jackets.

All children 6 to 9 years of age and their supervising guardian will receive a red wristband, which means they to complete a swim test:

  • If your child passes the test: They get a yellow wristband and may swim in the deep end. You must stay on the pool deck.

  • If your child does not pass or take the test: They keep their red wristband and you must be in the water, within arm's reach.

Swimmers 10 to 17 receive a green wristband and may swim without a guardian.

Rental groups:

  • Receive blue wristbands

  • A swim test is required (swimming one width of the shallow end and back without stopping or touching the bottom)

  • All standard admission rules apply

Pool fouling

To help keep our pool clean and safe for everyone:

  • Babies, toddlers and anyone without full bowel control must wear snug-fitting, reusable pool pants (no disposable diapers)

  • You should avoid eating or drinking too much before swimming

  • You should stay home if you are feeling unwell

  • Children under 12 must be supervised by someone 16 or older

  • Consult a doctor before use if you are pregnant or have a health condition
