No, if you receive notifications now, your landline is in our system and you will continue to get alerts for water main breaks and emergencies. However, you must sign up if you want to receive alerts on your cell phone or email, or if you want notifications about road closures, waste collection, winter parking and/or snow removal.
Alerts and Notifications
You can sign up to receive emergency notifications directly from the City of Cornwall. You can choose how to get alerts, either by call, text or email, and select which topics you want to be notified about. Alerts are location-specific, so you'll only receive messages relevant to your area. For example, if a water main break occurs on York Street, you’ll only be notified if you live nearby.
You can receive alerts for:
-
Emergencies including evacuations, facilities closures, provincial orders and major fires
-
Road closures
-
Waste collection
-
Water main breaks
-
Winter parking restrictions and snow removal
You can log in to update your preferences or personal information. Registration is free, voluntary and secure. We will use other methods to communicate during emergencies, such as paper notices for water main breaks and road closures, as well as social media, websites and local news.

I already receive notifications from the City. Do I need to sign up?
I already get AMBER alerts from the province. Do I still need to sign up for this?
Yes. The provincial and federal alert systems are separate from the City’s system, and we do not have access to their contact lists.
What if my contact details change or I want to unsubscribe?
You can update your phone number, address or notification preferences at any time through your account..
I signed up but haven't received any alerts. Why?
We only send alerts when necessary. Some alert lists are also being phased in as staff complete training.
How is my personal information protected?
Your information is managed by the RAVE notification system, which stores data in Canada and does not sell it to third parties. Only a limited number of trained City staff can send alerts and they cannot access your individual account details.
