Cornwall Fire Services responds to many types of emergencies, including fires, water and ice rescues, dangerous goods incidents, and medical calls. Our team also works to prevent emergencies by offering public education and fire safety programs. We work to keep our community safe and improve quality of life for everyone who lives, works, or visits here. 

Our services

Fighting fires is what most people think of when they imagine a fire department, and we have the trained staff and equipment to do that job well. We also offer many other important services that help make Cornwall a safer place, including:

  • Fire prevention and education programs

  • Hazardous material response

  • Water and ice rescue

  • Technical rescue (awareness)

  • Response to medical calls

  • Auto extrication (cutting people out of vehicles)

Message from the Fire Chief

Welcome to the City of Cornwall Fire Services website. On behalf of the men and women of the Cornwall Fire Services, it is our sincere desire that you will find our website interesting and informative.

The Cornwall Fire Services members are dedicated specialists whose mission is to protect the residents and visitors to the City of Cornwall. The department responds to emergencies within the community where life, property, or the environment is in jeopardy. We are an all-hazards emergency services department with a high-performing team. Our staff are the key to our success, and I'm honoured to lead our team.

Our team's mission encompasses the Three Lines of Defense:

  • Public Fire and Life Safety Education

  • Fire Prevention and Fire Code Enforcement

  • Fire and Emergency Response

We are excited to be in working in our new fire station on Tollgate Rd W, it is an exciting time for Cornwall Fire Services to have three fire stations to better serve our community. Our Service consists of 56 suppression firefighters, 3 Fire Prevention Officers / Public Educators, 1 Training Officer and 1 Mechanic, in addition to this, Deputy Chief Leighton Woods’ portfolio includes Emergency Management, Public Education, Fire Prevention, By-Law Services and is the Cities CEMC, Deputy Chief Addison Pelkey’s portfolio includes the Operations side of the service including Suppression, Training and Mechanical Divisions.

Every year people are hurt by fire; fire safety is everyone's responsibility. Make sure you have working smoke alarms on every level of your home and outside all sleeping areas. Talk with your family about what to do if there is a fire in your home. Be prepared; early notification saves human and pets' lives.
