Public Skating

The City of Cornwall offers a variety of public skate sessions for all ages. From relaxed skating to skill development, there's a session for you. Visit the Benson Centre at 800 Seventh St W for indoor sessions, or explore our outdoor rinks throughout the community. Lace up and join us on the ice! If you need help with the fees, you can also apply for recreation fee assistance.

Public Skating

You can register for a Public Skate from September to March at the Benson Centre. Our public skating sessions are for everyone, from beginners to experienced skaters. Come enjoy a session on the ice.

Public Skate rules include:

  • All skaters must wear skates to enter the ice surface

  • Parents and guardians must wear skates

  • Food and drinks are not permitted on the ice

  • Items which may interfere with the safety of any skater is not permitted, including balls pucks, chairs, pylons, strollers and sticks

  • Skate Aids are available

  • Individuals are not allowed on the ice during flooding

  • Carrying infants and/or children is prohibited

  • Headsets, cell phones or handheld electronic devices are not permitted on the ice

Senior Skate

You can register for senior skating at the Benson Centre, held on most Mondays starting in September. The centre also provides occasional public skating sessions during the summer months.

Parent and Tot Skating

You can register now for Parent and Tot Skating. It's a wonderful opportunity for you and your little one to enjoy the ice together in a fun, supportive environment.

Parent and Tot Skating rules:

  • Tots must be accompanied by an adult on the ice at all times

  • Tots must wear a helmet and skates

  • Adults must wear skates

  • Food or drinks are not permitted on the ice surface

  • Items which may interfere with the safety of any skater is not permitted, including but not limited to balls, pucks, chairs, pylons, strollers and sticks

  • Skate Aids are available

  • Individuals are not allowed on the ice during flooding

  • Carrying infants and children is prohibited

  • Headsets, cell phones or handheld electronic devices are not permitted on the ice

Stick & Puck for Families

Register for Stick & Puck to get more ice time! This program is designed to help younger (ages 3 to 12) and new skaters with the fundamentals of hockey. Learn how to improve your skills, including passing, puck control and skating drills.

Rules include:

  • Youth includes ages 3 to 12 years old.

  • All participants on ice must have paid before getting on ice, all those not paid will be asked to leave the ice surface immediately.

  • Youth must be (mandatory) always accompanied by Parent/Guardian on the ice or within the Arena Facility. Adult to child ratio is 1 to 2.

  • All Participants must be wearing Skates, CSA-approved Helmets with full-face mask and hockey gloves. Chinstraps must be fastened.

  • Pucks and sticks are permitted.

  • Food or drinks are not permitted on the ice surface.

  • Individuals are not permitted on the ice during flooding.

  • Slap shots are not permitted and you will be asked to leave the ice surface if this rule is broken

  • Headsets, cell phones or handheld electronic devices are not permitted on the ice surface

  • Games, practices, coaching or private lessons during Stick and Puck sessions are not permitted

Adult/Teen Stick & Puck 

You can register for Adult/Teen Stick & Puck for ice time for improving your skating and shooting skills. This informal skate is for players aged 13 and up who want to work on hockey fundamentals, get exercise and have fun in a casual environment.

Rules include:

  • Ages 13+ only

  • All participants on ice must have paid before getting on ice, all those not paid will be asked to leave the ice surface immediately

  • Participants must wear skates, gloves and a CSA-approved helmet with chinstrap fastened

  • Food and drinks are not permitted on the ice surface

  • Pucks and sticks are permitted

  • Individuals are not allowed on the ice surface during flooding

  • Slap shots are not permitted and you will be asked to leave the ice surface if this rule is broken

  • Headsets, cell phones and handheld electronic devices are not permitted on the ice surface

  • No games, practices or coaching is permitted during Stick & Puck sessions

Shinny Hockey

Register for Shinny Hockey to join the informal, drop-in game! This is a self-organized, half-ice activity where players of all skill levels can participate without a league. Play is unsupervised and welcome to everyone for recreational, non-competitive fun.

Rules include:

  • Hockey gloves, skates and CSA-approved helmets are required for all players

  • Full hockey equipment recommended but not required

  • No body contact

  • No lifting the puck or slapshots

  • Only one puck on the ice during a game

  • Body contact is prohibited

  • Any aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated
