Our program aims to match each child and family with a compatible provider in his/her community. The Home Child Care Agency offers high quality full fee and subsidized child care for infants to 12 years of age. Full time and part-time child care arrangements are available, including flexible hours. 

Among the many advantages of this type of care are the smaller child to provider ratio.  We offer the support of our team of professionals to the parents and providers. Parents can be confident that their child is receiving quality care.

The home child care provider is a caring and nurturing person who offers a stimulating environment for children.  The provider is carefully screened through a comprehensive screening process and home assessment by a highly skilled child care advisor.  Screening includes the following:

• Criminal Reference Check
• Children's Aid Society background check
• Medical
• Home fire inspection
• Written references

Each home child care provider must follow directives regarding health and safety, nutrition, activities, as well as number and ages of children permitted as set out by the agency and the Ministry of Education.  Home child care providers are limited to 6 day care children. Her own children are included in the following age and number restrictions for children under the age of 6 years:

• maximum of 6 children under the age of 13
• maximum of only 3 children under the age of 2 (including their own children)

Each home is visited routinely by a child care advisor trained in Early Childhood Education who offers ongoing support and guidance, and ensures that the requirements of the Child Care and Early Years Act are met. The child care advisor will monitor and make certain that the physical, emotional and social needs of your child is being met.

Your child will have access to many resources such as equipment, age appropriate toys, arts and craft materials, books, playgroups and special events.

You have access to support from child care professionals on child development.  We believe close cooperation and communication between the three partners of the "team" - parent, provider and child care advisor is key to a successful child care relationship.

How to Become a Home Child Care Provider

The Home Child Care Program is always looking for Home Child Care Providers in the City of Cornwall and the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry who are interested in caring for children in their homes.

The goal of our Home Child Care Program is to provide children with a warm, loving, inclusive, safe and stimulating environment as well as offering a supportive environment for child care providers.

Advantages of the Home Child Care Program:

• You are self-employed
• You are paid on a regular basis
• No exchange of money between yourself and the parent(s)
• You are paid 30 absent days / vacation days
• You receive professional support in Early Childhood Educators
• You are offered workshops and training
• You can access a toy and equipment lending service

Do you:

• Want playmates for your children?
• Want to help parents working or training outside the home?
• Want to supplement your family income without having to work outside your home?
• Have a suitable location and space in your home?
• Provide flexible hours of care to accommodate parent's work schedules?

Responsibilities:

• Offer a safe, healthy and stimulating environment for children
• Provide age appropriate activities that meet the needs of individual children
• Provide nutritional meals and snacks
• Work in collaboration with program Child Care Advisor and parent(s)
• Contracted to the City of Cornwall which services the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry
• Provide child care in your home to no more than 6 day care children under the age of 13
• Provide criminal reference check, including a Vulnerable Sector Screen for anyone residing in the home that is over the age of 18 years
• Maintain homeowners' insurance policy covering contents and liability

The Home Child Care Licensed Agency is a program within the Child Care Services Division of the Human Services Department of the City of Cornwall.
