Child Care Fee Subsidy is a program that helps eligible families pay for child care costs at licensed programs within Cornwall and United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry.  Limited child care fee subsidy is available for children from birth to 12 years who need to be in a child care program because parents are working, attending school, training or participating in upgrading skill courses.  Eligible hours of child care are based on the parent's hours of work, school and participation in upgrading skill courses. The subsidy is provided to licensed child care programs on behalf of eligible families.

Whether you need child care because you are working, attending school, training or participating in upgrading skill courses, a licensed child care setting is a great place for your child to learn, to play and to grow.

You, the parent, have the choice of the type of care you would like for your child. You have the option to secure a place in a licensed child care centre or with a home child care provider through our licensed home child care program.

 Who can apply?
Please see the following four bullets to see if you would be eligible for a Child Care Fee Subsidy:
  • You must live in the City of Cornwall or the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry.
  • You must have a child(ren) between the ages of birth and 12 years who need to be in a licensed child care centre or licensed home child care.
  • You must be working, attending school, training or participating in upgrading skill courses or long distance education.
  • You must be in financial need, as determined by the most recent Canada Child Care Tax Benefit Notice or Income Tax Federal Notice of Assessment.  You will also be considered to be in financial need if you are eligible for social assistance.

If you meet the above four requirements, you may be eligible for a Child Care Fee Subsidy.  Eligibility is determined through a meeting with a Child Care Case Manager.

 How to apply
Please complete the Child Care Fee Subsidy Application.

Your application will be reviewed and you will be contacted by our office.  You will receive a letter confirming your placement on the wait list.  If you do not receive a letter of confirmation, please contact the Child Care Division within 14 days.

The Income Test is the tool that will be used to determine your financial eligibility for fee subsidized child care. It is based on your annual net income which is identified on line 236 of your Canada Revenue Notice of Assessment.

If Child Care Fee Subsidies are not available at the time of your application, you will be placed on a fee subsidy wait list.  When fee subsidies become available, a Child Care Case Manager will contact you to schedule an appointment to complete an Income Test to determine eligibility for funding.  Applicants on the wait list will be called on a "first come, first served" basis.  Wait times will vary depending on availability of funding.

If you require child care services while on the fee subsidy wait list, you must make your own private child care arrangements as you will be responsible to pay the child care fee.
