Culvert and Sewer Rehabilitation

The City of Cornwall will be repairing culvert crossings throughout the city. Culverts are an important part of our drainage systems.

How we fix them

The repair method is cured-in-place culvert lining. Workers insert a flexible liner into the existing culvert. Then they use steam to harden the liner. This creates a new culvert inside the old one. Here are the steps to fix a culvert:

  1. Set up bypass pumps and erosion controls (these protect fish and wildlife)
  2. Clean the existing culvert
  3. Install the new liner
  4. Restore the area, which this includes ditch cleaning, new topsoil and grass seed or sod

You may see utility crews before work starts

Before construction begins, you may see utility companies like Enbridge or Bell in the area. They are moving their pipes and wires to make room for the work. If your service is disrupted, please contact them directly.

The crew may not be on site every day

There may be days when you do not see the contractor on site between the different steps. This is normal. The contractor has many crews that do different types of work.
