Medical Recruitment and Scholarships

Cornwall has long supported community health care initiatives, especially the recruitment of medical professionals and the ongoing enhancement of community health care assets.

There are two active programs: Medical Recruitment and Medical Scholarship.

Medical Recruitment Program

The City of Cornwall works with local health sector partners to recruit medical professionals to the community. Since 2006, the medical recruitment effort has helped 46 physicians and specialists to Cornwall.

The Medical Recruitment Program provides up to $25,000 to offset costs associated with relocating to Cornwall. In return, the doctor agrees to operate in Cornwall for a period of three years.

Medical Scholarship Program

The Cornwall Medical Scholarship provides financial support to a local medical student who agrees to establish a practice in Cornwall upon completion of their studies.

The medical scholarship is valued at $25,000 annually and may be awarded, each year, for up to six years, to a qualified medical student. In return for scholarship funding, the recipient will set up a family practice and undertake admitting hospital privileges in Cornwall for a minimum period of five years.

Additional information on both the Medical Recruitment and Scholarship programs can be found here:
