Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne, in collaboration with the Native North American Travelling College, the City of Cornwall and the Children's Aid Society of SD&G will be hosting an event of reflection and learning in honour of Orange Shirt Day.

The event will take place on Saturday, September 30, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Lamoureux Park. It will feature traditional teachings, dancing, singing, vendors, traditional food sampling and other meaningful activities in the spirit of reconciliation.

City of Cornwall offices will be closed on Monday, October 2.

The Benson Centre and the Aquatic Centre will be open, with their regular scheduling. The Civic Complex will also remain open.

Cornwall Transit buses will be running on Saturday September 30 and on Monday, October 2. Transit offices will be closed on Monday, October 2.

There will not be any changes to waste collection and the landfill will be open on Saturday, September 30 and on Monday, October 2.
