Structure Fire at 402 Montreal Road, Cornwall
At approximately 12:20 p.m. on September 4, 2025, Cornwall Fire Services responded to a report of a possible structure fire at 402 Montreal Road.
Upon arrival, crews made entry into a three-storey mixed-use building, with commercial occupancy on the main floor and residential units on the second and third floors. The building contains a total of 24 residential units.
Firefighters quickly located the source of the fire in a single unit on the third floor. The fire was isolated and extinguished promptly. Minor smoke was present in the hallways, but no further spread occurred.
One tenant has been displaced as a result of the incident. Cornwall Fire Prevention Division is working collaboratively with the Cornwall Police Service to investigate the cause of the fire. The investigation remains ongoing.
"Our members responded quickly and professionally to contain the fire and prevent further damage or injury. I'm proud of the teamwork and coordination shown today, and we'll continue working closely with our partners to determine the cause," said Matthew Stephenson, Deputy CAO/Fire Chief.
