Statement on City of Cornwall 2026 Municipal & School Board Election Official Election Results

The City of Cornwall has completed its routine manual review of the City of Cornwall 2026 Municipal and School Board Election on October 27, 2026.  The official results of the election are set out in the Official Statement of Election Results duly certified and updated the official results spreadsheet breakdown.

Unofficial results are released on election night to provide residents and candidates with timely information. The period between unofficial reporting and the declaration of official results allows election officials to manually review, reconcile and verify voting records, including results received from local municipalities in a comprehensive manner. This process helps ensure the accuracy and completeness of the official results.

The official results confirm one change in the position of the candidates to the English Separate School Board Trustees. There was an omission of the results from the Township of North Glengarry and Township of South Glengarry in the unofficial results the City displayed on October 26, 2026. Donna Neilson has been elected over Krista Ryan as a Trustee.

The official results of the English Separate School Board Trustees are:

  • Karen Torrie-Racine at a total of 1763 votes;
  • Donna Nielsen at a total of 1181 votes;
  • Suzanne Ayotte at a total of 921 votes; and
  • Krista Ryan at a total of 869 votes.

For the Mayoral race, the votes cast for Justin Towndale, were updated from 2141 to 4559. This was due to a display error of the unofficial results caused by a human error. This has been corrected in the official results.

The official results of the Office of Mayor are:

  •  Sarah Good at a total of 7545 votes;
  • Justin Towndale at a total of 4559 votes;
  •  Art Levert at a total of 1588 votes; and
  • Nicole Spahich at a total of 301 votes.

The updated votes in the official results have no impact on the result of the Office of Mayor’s election or the position of the candidates, other than confirming the number of votes cast.

“Election night results provide an early indication of the outcome, while the verification process confirms the accuracy and completeness of the official results,” said Denise Labelle-Gelinas, City of Cornwall Elections Lead. “We recognize the importance of these changes, particularly for the candidates affected. Residents can have confidence that the official results reflect the votes cast.”
