First Hope in Action Community Gathering to Focus on Learning, Connection, and Action
The Unity in Diversity - Equity, Culture and Belonging Community Working Group, organized through Cornwall Police Service, is pleased to invite community members to Hope in Action, a family-friendly event focused on fostering inclusion, strengthening community connections, and creating safer communities for everyone. The event will take place on Saturday, November 7, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Centre Charles-Emile Claude.
Hope in Action will bring together residents, community organizations, youth, and local leaders for a day of meaningful dialogue, cultural learning, and collaborative action. Anyone is welcome to attend, and participants will have the opportunity to engage in discussions, share experiences, and explore practical solutions that promote belonging, understanding, and community well-being.
This event will have a special focus on youth engagement, encouraging young people to take an active role in shaping a more inclusive, safe, and connected community. Through youth-led discussions, presentations, creative showcases, and collaborative activities, young people will have opportunities to share their voices, contribute ideas, and help inspire positive change within Cornwall and the surrounding area.
“Hope in Action brings people together to learn from one another, deepen understanding and identify meaningful ways to make a positive difference,” said Farhana Meghji, Equity, Culture and Belonging Specialist with Cornwall Police Services and the City of Cornwall. “This gathering creates a space where everyone can be their authentic self while helping to build a more inclusive community through learning and connection.”
The Unity in Diversity - Equity, Culture and Belonging Community Working Group brings together people from diverse backgrounds to advance inclusion, belonging, and community safety. Originally formed to help shape the Cornwall Police Service Strategic Priorities, it has grown into an ongoing group that identifies community needs and supports positive change.
“Hope in Action is about bringing people together, listening to one another and turning shared ideas into meaningful change. We look forward to welcoming residents from across the region and continuing to build a community where everyone feels safe, valued and empowered to belong,” said Ms. Meghji.
