Council Meeting Recap – February 23, 2026
Election 2026
On February 23, Council and administration advanced plans to enhance accessibility for the municipal election scheduled for autumn 2026. Election Day will take place on Monday, October 26, with eight general polling locations across the city. Notably, a north end site has been added, which is anticipated to reduce long lineups observed at certain polling stations during the 2022 election.
In accordance with Council’s directive, administration will provide additional details regarding advanced voting hours and election security in subsequent updates.
Elections Signage
Council approved a new election signs by-law that standardizes placement rules, such as a two-metre setback from roads, 15-metre visibility at intersections, and bans on signs on sidewalks, municipal property, and utility poles. The by-law also requires all signs to be removed within 72 hours after voting day, promoting safety and regulatory consistency.
March Break Free Library Parking, Busing
The Cornwall Public Library will offer free special programming for kids and families during March Break. From March 16-20, the municipal parking lot behind the library is free during the day, and Cornwall Transit will provide complimentary bus rides to the library by showing your library card to the driver.
Friends of Guindon Park
Council has given the green light to the terms of reference for the Friends of Guindon Park’s Trail-keepers Association (GPTA). This volunteer-driven, non-profit group is designed to help with trail care, maintenance, and community outreach, working alongside the City. Guindon Park is Cornwall’s largest natural area for outdoor recreation, covering about 500 acres and offering activities year-round, including hiking, cycling, and water-based sports.
The next Regular Meeting of Council will be held on Monday, March 23, at 7 p.m.
