Cornwall Fire Services Responds to Structure Fire on Tollgate Road West

Earlier this morning, Cornwall Fire Services responded to a mobile home fire at 2155 Tollgate Road West. The call was received at approximately 8:50 a.m.

Upon arrival, crews found a mobile home with heavy smoke coming from the roof. Firefighters confirmed that no individuals were inside the structure. The building sustained significant fire damage, requiring extensive efforts to locate and extinguish the fire. There were no civilian injuries; however, one firefighter suffered a minor injury and was assessed, treated, and transported to hospital by paramedics. Two individuals have been displaced as a result of the fire and are being assisted by the Red Cross.

Cornwall Fire Services had 11 firefighters on shift at the time of the call, all of whom responded. An additional six off duty firefighters were mobilized to assist at the scene and respond to other emergency calls in the city. The initial response included two pumper trucks, one aerial truck, and an incident commander. An additional pumper and rescue vehicle were later brought into service.

Cornwall Fire Service investigators have begun their work to determine the origin and cause of the fire. There is no disruption to vehicular traffic on Tollgate Rd. W., and we appreciate residents giving firefighters the space needed to conduct their work.

“We are grateful for the efforts of our firefighters, who worked to contain the fire to a single building,” said Deputy Fire Chief Leighton Woods. “Nobody was home at the time, and thanks to the vigilance of a neighbour, the fire was reported quickly. Our firefighter has been released from hospital, and we wish them a speedy recovery.”
