Cornwall Fire Services Responds to Structure Fire on Jase Street

Cornwall Fire Services responded to a semi-detached residential structure fire in the 600 block of Jase St. on January 29, 2026. The call was received at approximately 3:54 p.m.

Upon arrival, fire crews were unable to confirm whether all occupants had exited the building, prompting an aggressive interior search. Firefighters later determined that all occupants were safe and had not been home at the time of the incident. A total of five individuals have been displaced as a result of the fire.

Cornwall Fire had 13 firefighters on shift at the time of the call and mobilized an additional 6 firefighters for added resources and be available to respond to emergency calls in the city. The initial response included two pumper trucks, one aerial and one rescue apparatus.

Cornwall Fire Service Investigators will begin their investigation to determine the origin and cause. Jase St will remain closed during this process, open only to local traffic, and residents in the area are advised to avoid the scene.

“The prompt response by Cornwall Fire Services helped contain the fire to one side of the semi‑detached structure,” said Matthew Stephenson, Deputy CAO and Chief of Fire Services. “I am proud of their efforts to protect lives and property. Thankfully, no one was home at the time of the fire, and thanks to the vigilance of neighbours, the fire was reported quickly.”
