City of Cornwall provides update following Court decision

The Ontario Superior Court of Justice has issued its decision regarding the City of Cornwall’s reference concerning Councillor Sarah Good’s 2022 campaign financial filing.

The Court determined that no default occurred under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 in relation to Ms. Good’s 2022 campaign financial filing.

As a result of the Court’s decision, Ms. Good remains a certified candidate for Mayor in the 2026 municipal election.

“The City sought direction from the Court so that the application of the Municipal Elections Act in these circumstances could be determined independently,” said Tim Mills, Chief Administrative Officer. “The Court has now provided that direction, and the City will follow its decision and continue to administer the municipal election impartially and in accordance with the law.”

The City will continue to administer the 2026 municipal election in accordance with the Municipal Elections Act, 1996.

“We thank the Court for making accommodations to hear this matter,” added Mills.
