City of Cornwall and Agape Centre Offer Support During Extreme Cold
As winter temperatures drop, the City of Cornwall is committed to ensuring that everyone who is cold finds a safe, welcoming place to warm up. Continuing our partnership with the Agape Centre from last winter, the City will again provide overnight warming options for residents in need, along with daytime warming locations at public facilities.
Overnight Warming Centre at Agape Centre (40 Fifth Street West)
The City of Cornwall is announcing that its Overnight Warming Centre is now open to the public seven days a week, from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, effective immediately. The Centre will operate nightly, regardless of temperature, until April 10, 2026.
This is the second year the City has supported a warming centre, recognizing the ongoing need for a safe and warm space during the winter months. The City is pleased to partner with the Agape Centre, which graciously agreed to host the Overnight Warming Centre at their location for a second year in a row. The City wishes to extend sincere thanks to the Agape Centre for being a great partner in this initiative.
The Overnight Warming Centre is available to anyone in need of shelter overnight, with priority given to those on the By-Names list or residing in encampments. No one should have to face cold winter nights without a safe place to go, and the City is committed to ensuring community members have access to this essential service.
Please note that for safety reasons, pets are not permitted at the warming centre.
Daytime Warming Locations
For those looking for a warm place to warm up during the day, several City facilities are available. The Cornwall Public Library, community centres (such as the Aquatic Centre, Benson Centre and Cornwall Civic Complex), and administrative buildings are open as throughout daytime hours.
