This program is now closed for 2021. Thanks for your support. See you in 2022!

Seniors, take note! The City of Cornwall's Senior-Friendly Community Committee is pleased to provide a new service: free access to the trishaw.

Take advantage of our beautiful network of paths and trails in Lamoureux Park along the St. Lawrence River. Explore nature, enjoy the outdoors, and connect with other generations by booking the trishaw.

A trishaw offers comfortable seating for one or two passengers. The trishaw is electric and operated by a volunteer seated on the bicycle.

How it works

It's free to use the trishaw!

Seniors can be accompanied by a passenger if assistance is needed to get in and out of the trishaw. The passenger should be from the same household or be a health care worker or companion. Accompanying passengers will have to book a time slot with the senior so that the time is reserved for them both.

Sessions are 30 minutes long and include several minutes to sanitize the trishaw. Pickup and dropoff is in the east end of the Civic Complex, up the hill from Marina 200. Call Cornwall Transit at 613-930-2636 to travel to your trishaw appointment - free!

Trishaw rentals are organized with respect to COVID-19 regulations. Trishaws are sanitized between each booking. During stay-at-home orders, the trishaw is not available.

Operating hours in 2021 were Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Volunteers

Seniors on Wheels needs volunteers! You can make the difference in a senior's day by piloting the electric trishaw. We'll work with your schedule and provide training before you start.

Sign up to be a volunteer pilot

Friendly folks of all generations are welcome to apply and help bring joy to seniors in Cornwall.

Project Background

The trishaw is available thanks to a New Horizons Grant. The Senior-Friendly Community Committee spearheaded the Trishaw Project as part of their mandate to...

  • reduce organizational, social, and physical barriers that prevent seniors from fully engaging in community activities
  • to provide a healthy community by focusing on the World Health Organization's identified key areas such as transportation, housing, social participation - to name a few

The Rotary Club Sunrise has supported this project with a $3,000 donation.
