Come out and skate for enjoyment, or work on your skills! Ice skating is a favourite Canadian pastime and the City of Cornwall offers a variety of public skate sessions for all ages. 

In addition to public skating, residents can also take advantage of the outdoor rinks that are established in the community (weather permitting). Find our list of outdoor rinks.

 Regular Public Skating

People of all ages can take to the ice during our public skating season which runs from September to March. The Benson Centre has skating sessions designed for the young and the young at heart. Feel like putting those blades on and taking a glide?  Fee $2.50 Adults, $2.25 Children, Teens, Seniors

Rules

  • All skaters must wear skates to enter the ice surface.
  • Parents/guardians must wear skates.
  • Food and drinks are not permitted on the ice.
  • Items which may interfere with the safety of any skater is not permitted. These items include but are not limited to balls, pucks, chairs, pylons, strollers, and sticks.   Skate Aids are available.
  • Individuals are not allowed on the ice during flooding.
  • Carrying infants and/or children is prohibited.
  • Headsets, cell phones, or handheld electronic devices are not permitted on the ice. 
 Senior Skating

Senior skating sessions are paused during the summer months.  Look for the return of free Senior Skating, courtesy of the City of Cornwall in September.  Senior Skating takes place on most Mondays from 9:30 am - 11:00 am at the Benson Centre.  For those that like to skate for fun or exercise in the summer the Benson Centre offers occasional public skate times for $2.50 per session.

 Parent and Tot Skating

Rules

Stick & Puck for Families

Need more ice time? Work on the fundamentals of hockey and improve your skills. The Stick & Puck program is designed to enable skaters in the opportunity to work on passing, puck control and skating drills. 

 

3-6 years old Stick & Puck sessions-This Stick & Puck is intended for younger participants 3 -6 years old or new skaters ONLY

Rules and Regulations

  • Cost is $5.00/person. Youth includes ages 3 to 12 years old.
    • All participants on ice must have paid before getting on ice, all those not paid will be asked to leave the ice surface immediately.
    • Youth must be (mandatory) always accompanied by Parent/Guardian on the ice or within the Arena Facility. Adult to child ratio is 1 to 2.
    • (mandatory) All Participants must be wearing Skates, CSA-approved Helmets with full-face mask and hockey gloves. Chinstraps must be fastened.
    • Pucks and sticks are permitted.
    • Food or drinks are not permitted on the ice surface.
    • Individuals are not permitted on the ice during flooding.
    • Slap shots are not permitted. Youth/Adult will be asked to leave ice surface if this rule is broken.
    • Headsets, cell phones or handheld electronic devices are not permitted on the ice surface.
    • Games, Practices, Coaching or Private Lesson during Stick and Puck sessions is not permitted.

Adult/Teen Stick & Puck (13+)

Need more ice time? Stick & Puck is an informal skate for players who want to work on the fundamentals of hockey, get some exercise and have some fun on the ice in a casual environment. Stick & Puck is an opportunity for skill development for skaters and shooters. Cost is $5 per skater.

Rules

  • Ages 13+ ONLY.
  • All participants must pay before getting on the ice. All those who have not paid will be asked to leave the ice surface immediately.
  • Participants must wear skates, gloves, and a CSA-approved helmet (chinstrap fastened).
  • Food and drinks are not permitted on the ice surface.
  • Pucks and sticks are permitted.
  • Individuals are not allowed on the ice surface during flooding.
  • Slapshots are not permitted. Individuals who break this rule will be asked to leave the ice surface.
  • Headsets, cell phones, and handheld electronic devices are not permitted on the ice surface.
  • No games, practices or coaching is permitted during Stick and Puck sessions.

Shinny Hockey - Drop in 

This is an informal, self-organized half ice hockey game where players of various skill levels can participate without a league. Participants are required to wear CSA-approved helmet, skates, and gloves.

Play is self-organized in this unsupervised, drop-in activity. All levels are welcome for recreational, non-competitive play.

  • Hockey gloves and CSA approved helmets are REQUIRED for all players.
  • Full hockey equipment recommended but not required.
  • No body contact.
  • No lifting the puck or slapshots.
  • Only one puck on the ice during a game.
  • Body contact and slapshots are prohibited.
  • Any aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated.
