 War Veteran Transit Pass Program

Veterans receive a free bus pass

Cornwall Transit and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 297 in Cornwall are pleased to offer free, unlimited lifetime transit service to veterans. This program is a gesture of respect and acknowledgement of the personal sacrifice made by veterans to our community and country.

The free lifetime bus pass is open to Canadians and Allied Veterans who participated in active service during World War II, the Korean War, Afghanistan War, Vietnam War, or peacekeepers in areas of conflict that reside in the City of Cornwall.

The lifetime bus pass is non-transferable and the pass may be confiscated if used by another person. The pass consists of a photo ID.

Veterans are asked to fill out the War Veterans Transit Pass Program application form. Forms are available at the Legion. They can mail, fax, or deliver, along with a photocopy of Certificate of Service and/or Discharge Papers to:

The cost of the pass is $44 for unlimited rides on conventional and community bus services during the month of issue.

175 passes are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The first time you buy a pass, a photo will be taken in the Cornwall Transit office. There is no charge for the photo. Should you lose your pass, an $8 replacement charge will apply.

You will need documentation every time you buy a pass. Please bring photo ID with an original or photocopied Ontario Works or ODSP cheque stub, or drug or dental card.

Can someone else purchase a Community Bus Pass for me?

Yes, if they provide your authorized documentation. If you are purchasing a pass for the first time, you will need to attend to have your photo taken.

Do I have to fill out an application form?

No. Please bring photo ID with an original or photocopied Ontario Works or ODSP cheque stub, or drug or dental card.

Can more than one member of my family purchase a Community Bus Pass?

Yes, each adult will have to supply their authorized documentation.

When can I purchase a Community Bus Pass?

The pass is only available at the Salvation Army Thrift Store (401 Fourth Street West). Handi-Transit patrons are still able to purchase their tickets at the Cornwall Transit office.

Is the Community Bus Pass valid on Handi-Transit?

St. Lawrence College Student Bus Pass

A great offer for students!

The St. Lawrence College semester pass allows unlimited travel on Cornwall Transit conventional routes.

An annual SLC Student Pass is available at a cost of $300, and is valid from September 1 to August 31. Passes can be purchased at Cornwall Transit or at the Student Union office of St. Lawrence College.

  • A fall semester pass, which is valid from September through December, must be purchased before October 15.
  • A winter semester pass, which is valid from January through April, must be purchased before February 15.
  • A summer semester pass, which is valid May through August, must be purchased before June 15.

How it works:

A valid St. Lawrence College, Cornwall Campus student identification card will confirm the holder is eligible to purchase a pass. A sticker that varies in colour by year and semester will be provided to be affixed to the front of the card.

Passengers must show the driver their bus pass each time they board the bus.

Passes are non-transferable and non-refundable, and only valid for the person identified on the student ID card. Cornwall Transit reserves the right to limit the number of semester and annual passes available.

Please note:
  • You cannot loan, sell or transfer your Semester Pass to another person.
  • The Semester Pass is the property of St. Lawrence College.
  • The issuer is not responsible for lost, stolen or shredded stickers or passes.
  • All monthly and semester pass sales are final.
  • Replacement of lost or stolen bus passes may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Benefits to the Semester and Annual Passes
  • Save money! A monthly pass costs $52, while a four-month Semester Pass costs $150, and a 12-month Annual Pass costs $300.
  • It's convenient! Passes are valid for unlimited rides on conventional routes, allowing travel flexibility from Monday to Saturday.
  • The pass can drastically reduce your fuel, insurance, maintenance and parkings costs, while choosing public transit results in lower air pollution, reducing the threat of climate change.
  • In rush hour, a single 40-foot bus can replace at least 46 cars.
  • Semester and Annual Passes qualify for the Federal Tax credit.
