 War Veteran Transit Pass Program

Veterans receive a free bus pass

Cornwall Transit and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 297 in Cornwall are pleased to offer free, unlimited lifetime transit service to veterans. This program is a gesture of respect and acknowledgement of the personal sacrifice made by veterans to our community and country.

The free lifetime bus pass is open to Canadians and Allied Veterans who participated in active service during World War II, the Korean War, Afghanistan War, Vietnam War, or peacekeepers in areas of conflict that reside in the City of Cornwall.

The lifetime bus pass is non-transferable and the pass may be confiscated if used by another person. The pass consists of a photo ID.

Veterans are asked to fill out the War Veterans Transit Pass Program application form. Forms are available at the Legion. They can mail, fax, or deliver, along with a photocopy of Certificate of Service and/or Discharge Papers to:

College students stand outside a Cornwall Transit bus

A great offer for students!

The St. Lawrence College (SLC) Student bus pass allows unlimited travel on Cornwall Transit conventional routes.

There are two types of SLC student bus passes available: annual and semester

An annual SLC student bus pass is available at a cost of $325.00 and is valid from September 1 to August 31.

Semester bus passes are available at the cost of $165 and are valid in the following timeframes:

  • A fall semester pass is valid from September through December, must be purchased before October 15.
  • A winter semester pass is valid from January through April, must be purchased before February 15.
  • A summer semester pass is valid May through August, must be purchased before June 15.

How it works:

A valid St. Lawrence College, Cornwall Campus student identification card will confirm the holder is eligible to purchase a bus pass.

The initial purchase of the SLC bus pass must be made at the Cornwall Transit office. Once you obtain the bus pass and create a profile on cornwall.usetransit.com, you will be able to load your future bus passes on your card on your own for as long as you remain an SLC student.

Passes are non-transferable and non-refundable, and only valid for the person identified on the SLC bus pass. Cornwall Transit reserves the right to limit the number of semester and annual passes available.

Please note:

  • You cannot loan, sell or transfer your semester pass to another person.
  • The issuer is not responsible for lost or stolen passes.
  • All annual and semester pass sales are final.
  • Replacement of lost or stolen bus passes may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Benefits to the Semester and Annual Passes

  • Save money! A monthly pass costs $55, while a four-month semester pass costs $165, and a 12-month annual pass costs $325.
  • It's convenient! Passes are valid for unlimited rides on conventional routes, allowing travel flexibility from Monday to Saturday.
  • The pass can drastically reduce your fuel, insurance, maintenance and parking costs, while choosing public transit results in lower air pollution, reducing the threat of climate change.
  • In rush hour, a single 40-foot bus can replace at least 46 cars.
  • Semester and annual passes qualify for the Federal Tax credit.
