Ontario Renovates 2020 - completed application packages will be accepted starting Monday, August 10, 2020

Ontario Renovates is a forgivable loan / grant program for low-to-moderate income homeowners in Cornwall, Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry. This program is being delivered with funding from the federal and provincial governments.

This program provides financial assistance in the form of a 10 year forgivable loan to make essential home repairs, and/or a grant to increase a homeowner's accessibility, up to a maximum of $10,000 (including $5,000.00 for accessibility and approved administrative costs).

The property must be located within the City of Cornwall or the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry. Funding is not available for work that is already started.

Other eligibility criteria include but are not limited to:

  • Maximum household income limits
  • Maximum house values

Funding under the Ontario Renovations component takes the form of a forgivable loan without interest.

This program is intended for necessary repairs of dwellings such as single, semi-detached, townhouse/row house and mobile homes (where the home is not located on leased land).   It is not intended for cosmetic repairs or general maintenance.

The work required must not have been started prior to the approval of the Service Manager; any work begun prior to approval will not be considered.

 Do I qualify?

To be eligible, applicant(s) must be at least 18 years of age; the single-dwelling home must be the owner's sole and principal residence in Cornwall Stormont, Dundas or Glengarry.

Income will be considered based on line 23600 of the 2019 Income Tax Notice of Assessment.  If income has drastically and permanently changed, as a result of a sudden medical condition, then the current year’s income can be considered.  The maximum eligible combined income per “household” is:

  • Household of 1: $43,700
  • Household of 2: $52,000
  • Household of 3-4: $59,300
  • Household of 5+: $64,500


The program will be available to first time applicants only unless you qualify for an accessibility repair.  In those cases, your application will need to be assessed further to determine eligibility.

 

What are the eligible home repairs?

Admissible home repairs shall include; heating systems (including hot water tank replacement), doors and windows, roofs and electrical.

“Household Members” [for this purpose]

  • include the homeowner(s) spouse, partner, relative, and any children or dependents 18 years of age or older who are not full-time students
  • a person of no relation that resides in the home


The municipal assessed value of the property (as per MPAC or municipal taxes) must be less than $254,060.

A maximum of up to $10,000 per household may be approved for Necessary Home Repairs under the Ontario Renovations component (including $5,000 for accessibility and approved administrative costs).

 How do I apply? 

The office is closed to the public, because of the COVID-19 pandemic.  The application package is now available below for printing or may be mailed to you.  The completed application form, along with supporting documents, will be accepted starting Monday August 10, 2020 and should be returned by either mail, fax, e-mail or hand delivered in the mail slot located at the main entrance door dropbox at 340 Pitt St Cornwall ON by Friday August 28, 2020

 

What are the supporting documents needed?

The checklist below will assist you in preparation to submit your application with the mandatory documents:

□ Proof of residency at property

□ Copy of Deed/Transfer/Charge

□ Copy of Income Tax Notice of Assessment 2019

□ Copy of home insurance

□ Copy of Property Value Assessment (MPAC, tax bill)

□ Proof municipal taxes are paid up-to-date

□ Proof mortgage payments are up-to-date

□ Proof there is no mortgage

□ Medical note (only if applying for accessibility grant)

□ Proof of full-time school attendance (if applicable)

□ 2 written estimates per project (last item can be submitted at time of home visit as well)

 

 Note:  In order to avoid delays in processing your application, it is important
to have all documentation submitted with your application. 
Only completed applications will be assessed.
Applications will be assessed for eligibility on a first-come-first-served basis.
