The new Cornwall Affordable Housing Complex at the southwest corner of Ninth Street East and McConnell Avenue is now complete.

The $18.8-million development features 77, 1-bedroom residential units as well as a commercial space that is occupied by the Housing Services Department for the City of Cornwall and SDG Counties.

The building also includes barrier-free units.

The site was identified as a priority location in a recent Housing Revitalization Plan, which recommends broadening the definition of affordable housing with the objective of creating healthy, sustainable communities.

The rent is set at or below the average market rent and it is not geared to income.  To be eligible for these units, income must fall below the Household Income Limits and Asset Limits.  There could be additional charges such as parking, utilities, air conditioning etc.  The rent increases once a year and tenants are provided with ninety (90) days’ notice.
