2022 Montreal Road Bike Path Retaining wall map

Background

In 2023, the City will be replacing the retaining wall(s) along the Montreal Road waterfront trail.

The project involves removing the existing small block retaining wall systems along the waterfront trail and installing a new large block retaining wall system.

What to Expect During Construction

The project will involve the following work/stages:

  1. Removal of the existing retaining wall system(s) in sections.
  2. Excavation and base preparation for the new block retaining wall.
  3. Installation of the new retaining wall system.
  4. Restoration (topsoil and sod, entrance repairs, etc.).
  5. Resurfacing (paving) the recreational path.

The City wants to ensure that the enjoyment of the waterfront trail is not limited during the summer months. This is why construction isn't scheduled to begin until the fall months. After construction of the new retaining wall is complete, residents can expect to see the path repaved and ready for use in Summer, 2024.

Before the work starts, you may see utility companies (Enbridge, Bell, etc.) on your street. They are moving infrastructure they own to accommodate the work. If you have any service disruptions, please contact them directly.

There may be days where you don't see the Contractor on site in between the different stages of construction. This is a normal part of the process. The Contractor has many crews that do different types of work.
