Background
The City will be extending Nick Kaneb Drive from Marleau Avenue to Tenth Street East/Virginia Drive in 2021.
The project includes the construction of the new road corridor, the installation of a new recreational path, a new storm sewer network and improvements to the intersections.
The extension of the road corridor is part of a long-term plan to improve transportation network connectivity in the City. The construction of the new roadway will also decrease response times for emergency vehicles.
What to Expect During Construction
The project will involve the following work/stages:
- Excavation.
- Installation of the new storm sewer network.
- Importing granular and backfill to build the road corridor.
- Grading granular for the new road base.
- Installation of new curbs.
- Installation of the new recreational path.
- Installation of new street lights.
- Intersection Improvements at Tenth Street East and Marleau Avenue.
- Paving the new roadway – includes three layers of asphalt.
- Restoration - includes new topsoil and sod and tree planting.
Before the work starts, you will see utility companies (Enbridge, Bell, etc.) on your street. They are moving infrastructure they own to accommodate the new roadway. If you have any service disruptions, please contact them directly.
There will be times when the water supply is disrupted. This is because the water has to be off in order to connect/disconnect residents to the temporary water supply so that the new watermain can be installed. The Contactor will send out notices twenty-four (24) hours in advance of the water being turned off.
Sometimes, unexpected events happen, like watermain breaks. When that happens, we cannot provide notice. We will work to restore your water service as quickly as possible.
