Waste Management Supervisor

The City is seeking a dynamic individual to fill the role of Waste Management Supervisor for the Environment Division.  Reporting to the Division Manager, Environment, the Waste Management Supervisor will be responsible for administering and directing the Waste Management programs including: landfill site operation, security and scale house operation, waste collection and disposal, blue box collection and processing, leaf and yard waste collection and depot operation, landfill gas and leachate collection program, environmental monitoring programs and the household hazardous waste depot.  

Our candidate must be able to demonstrate a level of expertise related to solid waste management normally acquired through a related post secondary or university degree and five years related and progressive management and accountability experience in addition to technical and administrative experience. Extensive knowledge of applicable theories, practices and trends in a recycling and waste disposal environment with emphasis on solid waste management, contract management and waste facility management with a thorough knowledge and understanding of statutes, regulations and bylaws affecting the department/division/section. Must have experience and ability in adjusting priorities, resources and budget. 

The ability to effectively manage a large contracted work force in a predominantly unionized environment with effective skills in leadership, facilitation, communication, report writing, presentation and conflict resolution. The candidate must be able to demonstrate strong leadership and guidance, technical competence, customer focus, innovation/creativity, team advocacy, staff delegation and empowerment, staff development and be committed to results. Must be able to work with elected officials, representatives from other levels of government, management, media, contract holders, peers, staff and the general public and have experience in designing and delivering customer focused programs and services. Must possess excellent public relations presentation skills and demonstrate the ability to lead and participate on diverse teams. Municipal experience and bilingualism will be considered assets.

The City of Cornwall offers a competitive annual salary starting at $72,842.00 per year plus a comprehensive benefits package.
