The opportunity…

The City is seeking a dynamic individual to fill the role of Waste Management Supervisor for the Environment Division.  Reporting to the Division Manager, Environment, the Waste Management Supervisor will be responsible for administering and directing the Waste Management programs including: landfill site operation, security and scale house operation, waste collection and disposal, blue box collection and processing, leaf and yard waste collection and depot operation, landfill gas and leachate collection program, environmental monitoring programs and the household hazardous waste depot. 

The Waste Management Supervisor will provide guidance to waste management staff including supervision, training and development, research and plan for new waste diversion initiatives, review landfill operational options and efficiencies.  The  Waste Management Supervisor will provide management of all contracts associated with the landfill and solid waste programs; respond to stakeholder inquiries and service requests; administer and enforce applicable City by-laws; coordinate and participate in waste management education and outreach events; and lead the implementation and update of the Solid Waste Management Master Plan.  

Essential qualifications…

  • Successful completion of a post secondary degree or diploma in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience working in the waste management setting.
  • Experience in the applicable practices in recycling and waste disposal with emphasis on solid waste management, contract management and waste facility management.
  • Experience supervising in a unionized workplace.
  • A thorough knowledge of the legislation and bylaws related to waste management.
  • Experience working collaboratively with stakeholders and the general public and have experience in designing and delivering customer focused programs and services.
  • Experience in adjusting priorities, resources, and budget.

Municipal experience and bilingualism will be considered assets.

The City of Cornwall offers a competitive annual salary starting at $72,842 per year plus a comprehensive benefits package.
