Overview

Reporting to the Supervisor, Recreation and Programming, the Recreation Coordinator is responsible for coordination, development, administration, and delivery of various recreation programs and services on behalf of the City of Cornwall. The ideal person will demonstrate excellent public relations, interpersonal, problem solving and organizational skills as well possess customer service skills including the ability to communicate and liaise with all staff, user groups and community organizations.

The responsibilities and duties of the Recreation Coordinator shall include (but not be limited to) the following:

  • Assist with the development, administration, delivery and evaluation of recreation, sport, leisure programs and services for all ages in the community, including the Summer Playground Program, public skating, drop-in sports, and sports league programming
  • Assist the Supervisor, Aquatic/Recreation and Programming with overseeing/scheduling Customer Service Representative (CSR) Staff
  • Assist in maintaining and updating Recreation Department section on the City website and social media pages
  • Assist in planning, designing and distribution of program and facility guides, brochures, and advertisements
  • Attend recreation and other City Committee meetings as require
  • Assist with recruitment, interviews and supervision of recreation program instructors, Summer Playground Program and the Arts in the Park staff and volunteers
  • Educate the public on the benefits of healthy active living via sport, recreation, fitness, and social activities
  • Liaise with user groups, potential sport organizations and sport delivery partners to assist in the startup of new and innovative sports and recreation opportunities
  • Responds to general and program-specific inquiries using strong communications skills, listening effectively to concerns and providing high quality customer feedback
  • Assist the Department in all special event, festival activities such as Canada Day, assist in the supervision and recruitment of tournaments and special events that are local, national, and international in scope
  • Assist in preparing and consulting on proposals for funding (grants and sponsorship) for community recreation, special events and tournaments
  • Assist local sport organizations in preparing bid submissions and proposals to their PSO or NSO to bring Provincial and National championships to City
  • Attend and supports community events and initiatives to increase brand awareness and recreation programs

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • A post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation, business administration, public administration, or equivalent along with a minimum of three (3) years of related experience in recreation programming
  • Superior verbal communication & customer service skills including the ability to communicate and liaise with all staff, user groups and community organizations
  • Demonstrate excellent public relations, interpersonal, problem solving and organizational skills.  Ability to answer client questions and complaints in a highly professional and competent manner
  • Experience with municipal recreation software (Perfectmind) and (Sharepoint) an asset
  • Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams)              
  • Demonstrate ability to work both independently and within a team-oriented organization
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings & weekends, and different municipal locations
  • Fully bilingual in French and English would be considered an asset

The City of Cornwall offers a starting annual salary of $66,810 plus a comprehensive benefits package.
