Mechanic Class A

The City of Cornwall is currently seeking a Mechanic Class A for the department of Infrastructure & Municipal Works. Mechanic’s are responsible for mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance to municipal equipment, vehicles, buses, tools and shop equipment; perform oxyacetylene and electric cutting, and welding; Complete Mechanical Fitness Inspections and repairs under M.T.O. Guidelines, including signing all associated certificates and forms and troubleshoot equipment by using diagnostic test instruments and reviewing related documentation. Shifts are subject to the department’s operational requirements.

Candidates mmust be licensed under the Apprenticeship and Tradesmen’s Qualification Act as a Truck and Coach Technician (#310T); be certifiable to issue Safety Standards Certificates and Vehicle Inspection Stickers; Must have a minimum of 3 years experience on heavy trucks (Air Brakes following acquisition of 310T Qualifications); Must be capable of reading and understanding Equipment Repair Manuals and must have successfully completed or able to obtain a First Aid Training program. Must have a Class “D” Driver’s License with a “Z” endorsement.

The following qualifications would be considered an asset: Interprovincial Status Diesel endorsement (U.V.) / Heavy Equipment (#421A) / I.C.E. / I.C.E. – NG, Certificate in Freightliner and/or International Navistar Diagnostic Training. Basic knowledge of repairs on Cummins engines, Allison transmissions, Thermal King HVAC and Multiplex wiring/diagnostics systems; being licensed as an Automotive Service Technician (#310S); and having experience in MIG, TIG and ARC Welding, including use of oxy-acetylene torches.

The City of Cornwall offers a competitive starting wage of $27.55 per hour (under review) plus a comprehensive benefits package.
