The City of Cornwall is seeking an accomplished community leader to fill the role of Manager, Planning. Our ideal candidate will be well versed in progressive leadership, inclusive decision making, transparent communication, developing positive relationships and achieving organizational results within a dynamic service organization.

The Manager, Planning is a spokesperson for the planning division, interacting with citizens and Councilors. The Planning Division is a part of the Department of Planning, Development and Recreation, and the Manager of Planning will report to the General Manager. The Division is responsible for all aspects of Land Use Planning under the Planning Act, which includes Official Plan and Zoning Bylaw Amendments, Subdivision and Condominium Approvals, Consents and Minor Variances under the Committee of Adjustment and Zoning and Site Plan Control Administration.  Another key role is the function of a Planning Advisory and Hearing Committee (PAC) within which all Planning Act Public Meetings and Recommendations to Council take place.

In addition, other responsibilities under Planning’s jurisdiction are Waterfront Planning, Staff Resource with the Heritage-Patrimoine Cornwall and S D & G Historical Society, assisting Economic Development with issues related to the City’s Community Improvement Plans (i.e. Heart of the City, Brownfield and Renaissance Rehabilitation Area) and with community public agencies, general public and developers.

The City of Cornwall is seeking candidates with a degree in Urban Planning, Environmental Studies or a closely related discipline; progressive administrative and supervisory knowledge in Planning or a related field with a minimum of seven (7) years of experience; comprehensive understanding of the Planning Act and other Planning related legislations; Demonstrated ability to communicate in an effective manner in both a verbal and written context, along with strong organizational skills; Full membership (or eligibility) in the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) and the Registered Professional Planner (RPP) designation.

The City of Cornwall offers a competitive starting annual salary of $111,412 plus a comprehensive benefits package.
