ITT Operations Support Specialist

The City of Cornwall is currently recruiting for an Operation Support Specialist to join our team of professionals in the Information Technology and Telecommunications (ITT) Department. ITT’s day-to-day responsibilities include managing technology projects and ensuring that the enterprise systems, applications, networks, end user devices, and communications systems, which support the operations of the municipality, are continuously available and operating effectively.

Reporting to the ITT Operations Supervisor, the Operation Support Specialist is a key member of the ITT Services’ team and serves as the first point of contact for staff seeking technical support.  This role includes the responsibility for supporting local and remote departmental staff in their day-to-day operations which may include departmental specific software. You will play a key role in seeing resolution from beginning to end while identifying and proposing opportunities to maximize and secure the effective use of corporate computer systems, assess corporate ITT requirements, and determine specific needs of computer systems. You will possess the ability to work within a fast-paced environment, often subjected to tight deadlines, as well as mid- to long-term IT projects. You have familiarity with working within policy frameworks as well as industry best practices and understand prioritization of tasks to adhere to established service level agreements (SLAs).   

As an ideal candidate, you are a detailed oriented person with proficiency in hardware and software troubleshooting. Your combined industry and academic experience, speaks to your considerable knowledge of information technology components, processes and developments including such areas as local and wide area network, server, and workstation environments, Office 365, hardware platforms, and related configuration options including GPOs. You have knowledge of and can support users experiencing mobility issues with their smartphones or cellular hotspots. You will be responsible to provide support via phone, remote assistance, on-site service for all users, and recording technical issues within the help desk ticket system. This position is required to participate in an after-hours on call rotation.

The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal contacts and the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing to present proposals in non-technical language is necessary. This position has access to sensitive and restricted information and is entrusted with maintaining confidentiality.

This position may require from time to time the ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50lbs and travel to off-site locations (local travel). Possessing, or the ability to obtain, a valid unrestricted Driver’s License (G-class) is a requirement of this position.

You will have a 3-year College diploma or University degree in Computer Sciences or Information Technology plus 2 years related experience in an integrated information technologies environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Industry Standard certifications such as ITIL, CIISP, SSCP, Security+ etc. are an asset, as is the ability to communicate in both French and English.

The City of Cornwall offers a competitive compensation and benefit package. The starting salary for this position is $65,500.
