Deputy Chief Building Official, Building Services Supervisor

Our Building & By-Law Division is service oriented and dedicated to affording residents the construction standards respecting occupants’ health and safety that Ontario offers. This position is an excellent opportunity for an accomplished senior Building Official with proven leadership experience in the administration and enforcement of the Ontario Building Code and associated regulations.

Reporting to the Chief Building Official, the successful candidate will lead, mentor, and support the building divisions’ technical team responsible for ensuring compliance with the provincial construction standards and applicable laws. The Building Division Supervisor/Deputy Chief Building Official will lead and foster a culture of customer service in a regulatory environment, possess strong conflict resolution skills and client centered problem solving approach. This position will assist the CBO in developing innovative operational policies and By-Laws designed for a progressive developing community.

As an ideal candidate, you will be a role model for the City of Cornwall’s values of leadership, integrity, collaboration, inclusiveness, and diversity.  The ideal candidate will be in good standing with the OBOA and possess, and be eligible for, the Certified Building Code Official designation.  The role also requires MMAH Certification in: House, Small Buildings, Large Buildings, Complex Buildings, Plumbing-House and All Buildings, HVAC-House, Building Services and Building Structural.  Additionally the successful candidate will also possess a 3 year post-secondary education in Architectural or Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent combinations of education and 6 years supervisory experience in a similar environment. The candidate will have strong organizational and analytical skills combined with a positive attitude that strives for continuous improvement. Being proficient with Microsoft Office Suites and a keen understanding of CityView would be considered desirable. With Cornwall’s rich history in both official languages, bilingualism will also be considered a strong asset.
