Communications Officer

The City of Cornwall is seeking an experienced Communications Officer to work as part of a dynamic and forward-thinking team. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), you will be responsible for designing proactive and strategic communications and supporting public engagement campaigns that aim to reach a range of audiences, community stakeholders including the news media. As someone who thinks outside of the box, you will work closely with City departments delivering information on City programs and services in creative ways to the residents of Cornwall. Responsibilities will also include managing the City’s website and organizing corporate advertising.

To be successful in this position, you will need to be an effective communicator and listener with superb organizational and management skills. You will be responsible for managing multiple projects and working with various teams with minimal supervision.

Requirements of this position include a post-secondary degree or diploma in Business, Communications, Journalism or Public Relations, and a minimum of 3 years of recent related work experience. Our candidate will have excellent written, computer, and presentation skills, including expertise in word processing, desktop publishing, photography, graphic design, the creation of effective promotional materials (advertisements, newsletters, brochures), management of web and social media content and knowledge of basic web design. This position is designated bilingual; the ability to communicate in both English and French is essential. Municipal experience will be considered an asset.
