The Recreation and Facilities department is seeking two Carpenters. The Carpenter would be responsible to perform repairs, general maintenance, construct cabinets and to carry out construction & renovation projects in various municipal buildings throughout Cornwall.

Some of the responsibilities of the role include:

  • Be capable of carrying out construction and renovation projects as well as constructing high quality cabinets and furniture.
  • Repair and refinish damaged furniture.
  • Estimate material requirements for specific projects.
  • Provide direction to fellow employees to properly assist in the carrying out of work assignments and all associated work.
  • Operate in a safe manner and be responsible for the proper use of tools and equipment.
  • Adhere to the regulations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and of the Highway Traffic Act, where applicable.
  • Perform other related duties.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Must be a qualified “General Carpenter” Trade code 403A as per the Ontario College of Trades;
  • Must possess a minimum of 5 years experience in the carpentry field;
  • Must be physically fit and be capable of performing all job functions;
  • Must be capable of comprehending and interpreting verbal and written instructions;
  • Must be capable of taking and maintaining WHMIS and First Aid training;
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to build high quality finished cabinets;
  • A Class “DZ” operator’s license and being a qualified “Cabinet Maker” Trade code 438A as per the Ontario College of Trades would be considered an asset;

The City offers an hourly wage starting at $30.43 per hour for a 40 hour work week plus a comprehensive benefits package and OMERS pension plan.
