SUBJECT:  Garbage Bag Collection Reduction – April 5, 2021

Please be advised that effective April 5, 2021, the City of Cornwall will be reducing the limit of garbage being collected at the curb.  Households will only be allowed to set out two garbage bags or one containers of trash per week.  For more information on the subject, please visit the City’s website at:  https://www.cornwall.ca/en/live-here/garbage-and-recycling.aspx

Also, Cornwall & Area Housing Corporation will no longer be providing dumpsters in the Spring for tenants to declutter.  This year’s collection resulted in several containers being rejected at the dump because they contained mattresses, electronics and hazardous products, etc.

When you have more bags than the permitted limit, you can buy tags.  Bag tags, which will allow residents to set out more bags than the current 4-bag or 2-can limit, are sold in sheets of 10 for $15.00 at:

  • City Hall, 360 Pitt Street
  • the landfill, 2590 Cornwall Centre Road
  • the Pop Shoppe, 101 Emma Avenue
  • Short Line Convenience, 1300 Second Street West
  • Fence Depot, 3045 Pitt Street
  • TAS Convenience, 1001 Montreal Road
  • Fullerton Drugs, 170 Pitt Street
  • MacEwen's, 1030 McConnell Avenue, 201 Second Street West, and 1400 Boundary Road

In Alexandria, garbage tags can be purchased, for $3.00 each, at the Municipal Office, at 90 Main St. S. Alexandria.
