City of Cornwall Initiates Curbside Organics Pick-Up in January 2025
The City of Cornwall is pleased to announce the commencement of the delivery of green bins throughout the city this month, in preparation for the curbside organics pick-up program set to launch in January 2025. Residential and multi-residential properties will also receive a kitchen catcher bin. This new initiative is part of the city's ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and waste reduction.
"Starting this week, residents will receive their green bins, which are designed to make organic waste collection simple and efficient," said Dave Kuhn, Supervisor of Waste Management. "We are excited about the positive impact this program will have on reducing landfill waste and improving our community's environmental footprint." Delivery of green bins will continue throughout the month of November.
Detailed information regarding the curbside organics pick-up can be found inside the green bins and will also be available on cornwall.ca and the city's social media channels throughout the month. Residents with further questions are encouraged to contact the Environment Services team at 613-937-1777.
In addition to the organics program, the City of Cornwall will transition to clear garbage bags starting in January. This change aims to enhance waste sorting and recycling efforts.
"As we must address our available landfill space, the City is adopting new initiatives which have been proven in other municipalities in Ontario," said Mayor Justin Towndale "These initiatives will help us meet provincial requirements and to ensure the sustainability of our community for future generations."
Residents are reminded not to stock up on black garbage bags, as the transition to clear bags will soon be in effect.
