Mayor Clement commends partners for successful collaboration

Cruise ship passengers have now left the NAV Centre following the successful completion of the 14-day quarantine.

City of Cornwall staff, including police, paramedics, and fire services, worked in collaboration with partners on the ground at NAV Centre to ensure the physical and medical safety of passengers and crews.

“As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve internationally, we will work alongside our partners to ensure an efficient and accurate flow of information,” said Mayor Bernadette Clement. “I have asked, and will continue to ask, for updates from the federal government regarding the quarantine of individuals in our community. It is critical that communications reach the City of Cornwall at the same time as other local partners, including the NAV Centre and the Eastern Ontario Health Unit.”

Mayor Clement commended the many groups who were on site day and night to ensure the quarantine was a successful one. No cases of coronavirus were confirmed among the passengers in quarantine.

Mayor Clement was on site to bid farewell to passengers on March 6. The City’s Economic Development division provided small Cornwall-branded gifts to be included in departure packages, and the Cornwall Public Library provided access to digital databases to entertain passengers during their stay.

The Governments of Canada and Ontario are advising that residents prepare, but not panic, as the number of confirmed coronavirus cases continues to rise worldwide.

Many residents in our area will be travelling in the weeks ahead. The City of Cornwall encourages residents to consult Government of Canada directives for best practices and travel advisories.
