$1 Fares and Front-Door Boarding Starts August 1

Posted On Tuesday July 14, 2020

Cornwall Transit passengers should be aware of the following changes to service.

Cornwall Transit will begin collecting fares on Saturday, August 1.

Fares for all passengers will be one dollar ($1). Passengers should pay with cash. No tickets, day passes, and monthly passes will be available at this time. Passengers will be issued transfers.

The start of fare collection will coincide with the beginning of front-door boarding.

“Transit has been proud to be an integral service during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Manager Len Tapp. “Since March, we have continued to serve our community. Now, we are looking at a slow return to normal, which will start with front-door boarding and $1 fares.”

Since July 7, face coverings are mandatory on Transit buses, with some eligible exceptions:

  • Children under two years of age, or children under the age of five years either chronologically or developmentally who refuse to wear a Mask and cannot be persuaded to do so by their caregiver
  • Individuals with medical conditions rendering them unable to safely wear a Mask, including breathing difficulties or cognitive difficulties
  • Individuals who are unable to apply or remove a Mask without assistance, including those who are accommodated under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) or who have protections under the Ontario Human Rights Code, R.S.O. 1990, c.H.19, as amended
  • A person who is employed by or is an agent of the Operator of an Enclosed Public Space and:
    • is in an area of the premises that is not designated for public access, or
    • is within or behind a physical barrier (e.g., Plexiglas)

Other health and safety precautions include:

  • Installation of barriers to protect Transit operators
  • Thorough cleaning of buses
  • Hand sanitizer dispensers on buses
