2019 Budget Approved

The City of Cornwall’s 2019 budget has been approved.  On February 28, 2019, after two days of deliberations, council voted to accept an investment of $22.3 million in capital projects and $177.5 million through the operating budget that provides the for the day-to-day delivery of services and programs to Cornwall residents.

“This budget ensures we maintain service levels,” said Mayor Bernadette Clement. “We are also maintaining our precious infrastructure while planning for the future.”

For the average residential property, assessed at $169,932, this means municipal taxes for 2019 will be $2,484.81. This represents an increase of $71.91 – or 2.98% - compared to 2018.

Your municipal budget funds services and programs in diverse sectors such as transit, policing, fire services, social and family services, waste collection and recycling, paramedic services, recreation programs, transportation, snow clearing, planning, and economic development.

Highlights of the 2019 Capital Budget

  • Investment in roads capital infrastructure
    • Nick Kaneb Drive extension- Marleau Avenue to Industrial Park Drive
    • Lemay Street upgrades and extension
    • Asphalt resurfacing on various streets
    • Active Transportation (sidewalk and bicycle infrastructure)
    • Fleet renewal
      • Transit Services:  2 conventional buses, 1 handi-transit bus
      • Paramedic Services:  3 ambulances and a service vehicle
      • Municipal Works vehicles including a plow truck, sidewalk plow
  • Facility upgrades to municipal buildings and parks
    • As part of the MW yard redevelopment – Salt Management Facility
    • Justice Building courtyard repairs
    • Aquatic Centre ventilation improvements and UV disinfection
    • Brian Tardiff Field lighting, netting and washrooms at King George Park
    • LED lighting at the Benson Centre and Civic Complex arenas
    • GSDL replacement of flooring, lighting, elevators
    • Phase 1 – new Fire Services headquarters
    • Art Centre architectural design drawings
