The holiday season was kicked off on the right note for over 30 clients of the Community Paramedic Program.

Participants were treated to food and songs on Friday, December 7 as part of the first-ever community Christmas party, held at Paramedic Services Headquarters, 601 Campbell Street.

“The idea is to spread Christmas cheer to clients we serve throughout the year,” said Cornwall SDG Paramedic Services Chief Bill Lister. “It’s brought our staff lots of joy, too, to host this event.”

Clients were bused in from across Cornwall, Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry.

“This was truly an inter-departmental initiative,” said Lister, noting the contributions of Cornwall Transit and Social & Housing Services made the event possible.

Cornwall SDG Paramedic Services staff also donated their time. Paramedics chatted with clients, who enjoyed lunch, Christmas carols, and a gift from Santa.

“This has warmed my heart,” Community Paramedic Elisabeth Hill told clients and their families. “I care for you so much. You’ve become part of my family.”

Eva Mahoney gets visits from community paramedics once a week.

“The paramedics are wonderful to us,” said Mahoney. “I don’t know what we’d do without them.”

The Community Paramedic Program provides at-home care to select residents in the community, with a focus on seniors and patients living with chronic conditions. Community Paramedics monitor independence and overall health of residents, with the goal of reducing hospital readmissions and transports to emergency departments.
