The Tree of Hope will once again shine in Lamoureux Park (near the Clock Tower) on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., as the community comes together for the second annual lighting event. This meaningful ceremony is dedicated to honoring and remembering Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirited+ persons (MMIWG2S+). All are invited to join in this evening of reflection, awareness, and unity.

The Tree of Hope stands as a symbol of remembrance, hope, and ongoing commitment to justice for MMIWG2S+. The ceremony not only pays tribute to those lost but also supports the families and loved ones who continue to seek answers and healing. By illuminating the Tree of Hope, the community sends a strong message that these lives are never forgotten and that the journey toward truth and reconciliation continues.

The event is hosted in partnership by the Akwesasne Family Wellness Program, Akwesasne Mohawk Police, the City of Cornwall, and Cornwall Police Services, underscoring the importance of working together to support Indigenous communities, amplify voices, and foster a culture of belonging and safety.

"During the Tree of Hope event, the community will gather for a meaningful program that includes a tree lighting ceremony, a moment of silence, singing, and speeches from community leaders and advocates,” explained Jo-Joe Van Hooser of the Akwesasne Family Wellness Program.  “Together, we pause for reflection and join in song to support families and raise awareness about the ongoing challenges facing Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirited+ people."

All community members are encouraged to attend and participate in this meaningful event to honor the memories of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirited+ persons, support families, and continue the important work of building understanding, safety, and hope for everyone.

“We light the Tree of Hope as a reminder that loved ones are never forgotten and that our community stands with families in their search for justice and healing,” added Farhana Meghji, Equity, Culture and Belonging Specialist with the City of Cornwall and Cornwall Police Services.
