Renaming of Riverdale Park to Gerry Grant Park

The Clerk’s Division has received a request from Marvin Plumadore, Heather Megill and Peter Morgan to rename Riverdale Park to Gerry Grant Park. 

Gerry Grant was in the Army, worked as a seaman on the St. Lawrence River system and the Great Lakes, worked at different jobs for Canadian National Railways and CIL.  Mr. Grant was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and was involved in many organizations and projects.  He was a Councillor for the City of Cornwall from 1986 to 1988 and received the Citizen of the Year award in 1992. Mr. Grant was the recipient of various awards: the Queen Elizabeth Golden Jubilee Medal, the Ontario Volunteer Award for 40 years of service in the community and Meritorious Service Awards.

Pursuant to the City’s Corporate Policy, a notice must be given to allow for public input.  The Commemorative Naming Committee will review all comments received.
