New Signage Improves Landfill Access

New signage is up at the City of Cornwall’s landfill!

Signs will help residents find the specific drop-off areas they’re looking for.

“There are more than a dozen drop-off sites at the landfill,” said Dave Kuhn, Waste Management Supervisor. “We want to be sure residents can easily get to each site, whether it’s their first time at the landfill, or their tenth.”

Unless residents are visiting the household hazardous waste depot, they must pass by the weigh scale. This ensures the City keeps track of the tonnage entering and exiting the landfill – a provincial requirement.

Plus - an interactive online map is now available!

“The map of different sites highlights how many diversion opportunities there are,” added Kuhn. “As much as possible, we want to keep items out of the landfill – things like mattresses, metal, tires, leaf and yard waste, clean wood, and recycling.”

The drop-off areas at the landfill site include:

  • Mattresses,
  • Electronics,
  • Scrap metal,
  • Bulky plastic,
  • Appliances with cooling liquid,
  • Shingles,
  • Septage,
  • Clean wood and branches,
  • Brick and concrete,
  • Household hazardous waste,
  • Leaf and yard waste,
  • The tipping face,
  • The recycling plant,
  • And the fREe Store.

While registering at the weigh scale, residents can request a map and directions to the various drop-off locations. Sites are identified with a number, both on the map and with signage at the site.
