New parking stalls, machines, and hourly rate

The City of Cornwall is kicking off 2022 with another round of parking program improvements.

Starting January 1, new parking stalls are available downtown in the Justice Building parking lot and along Cotton Mills Steet.

“We’re pleased to be able to offer new public parking stalls in two of our key business districts,” said Bernadine McEvoy-Robertson, Supervisor of By-law Services. “These stalls will help to ease pressure for parking as more of our local businesses return to regular services and hours in the new year. The Justice Building parking lot continues to offer some parking for City employees, so please check signage before parking.”

Four pay-by-plate machines are now in place on Third Street West across from the courthouse, on Cotton Mill Street, and on Sydney Street south of Second Street.  All machines across the city now offer contactless payment by tapping credit or debit cards. The machines also accept coins. Residents and visitors can also pay from anywhere using the WaytoPark app.

Hourly parking fees are $1.50, effective January 10. There will be a short transition period – some pay-by-plate machines may charge $1 while others are charging $1.50. Every effort will be made to update machines as quickly as possible.

This round of changes is a result of the recommendations passed by Council earlier this year. Check out the Parking Working Group report.
