The City of Cornwall is delighted to announce an upcoming candidate information session for anyone considering running in the 2026 Municipal and School Board elections. The session will take place on April 22, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, in the City Hall Council Chambers. This valuable opportunity, facilitated by the Clerks Department, is designed to inform, educate, and prepare potential candidates for the election process ahead.

During the session, attendees will receive comprehensive information about the upcoming elections, including the rules and timelines for nominations, the election process, and key dates to remember. The session will also provide an in-depth look at what is involved in serving as a councillor or school board trustee. Topics covered will include the responsibilities, expectations, and challenges associated with these important roles, as well as the positive impact elected officials can have on the Cornwall community.

“Running for municipal office or school board trustee is a meaningful way to contribute to our city’s future,” said Interim City Clerk Denise Labelle-Gelinas. “We want to ensure all interested individuals have access to the information they need to make informed choices and to understand the commitment involved. This session is a chance for community members to learn, ask questions, and discover how they can make a difference in Cornwall.”

The candidate information session is open to all members of the public, and no registration is required to attend. The City encourages residents who are contemplating a candidacy, as well as those who are simply interested in learning more about the process, to take part. With election day scheduled to be held on October 26, 2026, it is essential for potential candidates and voters alike to stay informed.

Nominations for municipal and school board positions can be filed beginning May 1, 2026. In addition, all residents are strongly urged to check the voters list at https://vreg.registertovoteon.ca/en/home to ensure their information is up to date and their eligibility to vote is confirmed.
