Cornwall Community Museum

Discover Cornwall, where Ontario began more than 200 years ago, at the Cornwall Community Museum in the Wood House, circa 1840, located in lush Lamoureux Park.

For more than a century, the "Wood House" was the family home of Cornwall's Wood Family.  Serving as a home, inn, farm, and place to gather, these old stone walls have been a place to live, celebrate and share with family and friends.  Since 1956, the House has been Cornwall and area's time capsule, where many of those family values still hold true.

The museum hosts numerous events from special speakers about heritage gardening and genealogy to school programmes, Easter Egg Hunts and an historic photo studio, where for a small fee you can dress up and have a photograph taken as a permanent reminder of your visit.

Step back in time and see how we used to live with furniture, textiles and household items made and used in Cornwall from the Loyalist days until the 1950's.  Your visit includes a 1900 kitchen filled with Cornwall's famous Flack and Van Arsdale crocks; a study circa 1910; a 1950's Seaway Era dining-room with Beach furniture; the Loyalist parlour; 1930's bedroom with Canada Cotton blankets made right here in Cornwall; our sewing room; and industrial room, where you may very well find a member of your family amongst one of the more than 3,000 faces on display.

In fact, you can discover your personal past every Wednesday with members of the SD&G Genealogical Society from 1 - 4 p.m.  Learn more about the history of the City of Cornwall with over 100,000 documents, 6,000 photographs and a comprehensive local history library.  The archives are open during regular museum hours.

The Kinsmen Community Museum Wing features the Cornwall Timeline, special exhibits, open display area, archives anda small flea market table filled with treasures as well as numerous local histories for sale.
