Eastern Ontario Health Unit

EOHUThe Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) promotes and protects the health and wellness of the community by preventing diseases and injuries, and by advocating for a safe and healthy environment through strategic partnerships.  The Health Unit services the City of Cornwall as well as the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry as well as the United Counties of Prescott and Russell.

The Eastern Ontario Health Unit celebrated its 70th anniversary on May 28, 2005. The Health Unit was established in late 1934 as a pilot project under special grants from the Rockefeller Foundation and the Province of Ontario. It was the first county health unit in the province.

Today, the Health Unit undertakes a number of programs and projects, all related to health and wellness. Examples include smoking prevention and cessation, healthy nutrition, Healthy Babies, Healthy Children, Heart Health, and a pre-school speech and language program. With a few exceptions, all public health programs are cost-shared between the Ministry of Health, the five counties and the City of Cornwall.

The Health Unit is headquartered in Cornwall.
