In February 2016, the Ministry of Education announced its intention to transform Ministry-funded child and family programs through integrating current early years programs and services for children aged 0 to 6 years and their parents and caregivers in Ontario, combining them into one program model that will be known as the Ontario Early Years Child and Family Centres.

Beginning in January 2018, Ontario's four existing child and family programs were united under the EarlyON brand. EarlyON Child and Family Centres provide opportunities for children from birth to 6 years of age to participate in play and inquiry-based programs, and support parents and caregivers in their roles.

As per Ministry directive, beginning in 2018, the City of Cornwall, serving Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry, became responsible for managing the new EarlyON Child and Family Centres.

About EarlyON Child and Family Centres

EarlyON is a combination of four programs – Ontario Early Years Centres, Parenting and Family Literacy Centres, Child Care Resource Centres and Better Beginnings, Better Futures. The programs were reorganized so families can get the same services at any EarlyON centre in Ontario, and also find programs tailored to each community.

Research and conversations with parents and educators show these programs are essential because they help children and families to learn, grow and connect together. There has also been a surge in new research on early childhood development. Therefore, it is important that child and family programs are equipped to respond to these changing realities.

EarlyON centres are open to all families in Ontario. They are welcoming places that offer the following 4 range of services:

  • join fun activities – reading, storytelling, sing-alongs, games and more
  • get advice from professionals trained in early childhood development
  • find out about other family services in your community
  • connect with other families with young children

If you would like to access free drop-in programs for caregivers and children from birth to 6 years, please visit your local EarlyON Child and Family Centre. You can learn and play with your child, meet people or get advice.
