Richelieu Day Care Centre is located at 305 York Street in Cornwall between Third and Fourth Street.

The centre is licensed to accommodate 10 toddlers (walking infants to age 2.5 years) and 32 preschool children ages 2.5 to 6 years old. It has been providing high quality child care services in the community for over 30 years since it opened its doors in 1979.

The centre is bright and spacious with three separate playrooms for the toddlers, junior preschoolers and senior preschoolers. Each room is divided into separate play areas with a diverse array of age-appropriate toys, equipment and educational materials. The centre has two playgrounds, one for each age group (toddler & preschool).

The centre is inclusive to all children. Some children may require additional supports to ensure they are able to reach their optimum level of development. Services can be made available to support children with special needs through Children's Services or Early Childhood Integration Support Services.

The day care centre's philosophy is that children are seen as active participants in their environment, and are by nature problem-solvers. Daily program plans are developed around the children's interests, taking into consideration individual as well as group needs. The role of the teacher is that of facilitator; to provide the kinds of experiences that promote active learning on the part of the child.  Please contact us directly to learn more about our programs.

Our day care provides a positive, educational and nurturing environment that supports and encourages children to reach their full potential. Through play experiences and the guidance of our specially trained Early Childhood Educators, your child will be exposed to situations that will stimulate and develop:

          1.  Curiosity, initiative and independence
          2.  Self-esteem and decision making capabilities
          3.  Interaction with and respect for others
          4.  Physical activity that develops gross motor skills
          5.  Communication skills
          6.  Fine motor development

We recognize the value of partnership with families in supporting and strengthening our ability to meet the needs of the young children we serve. As such, staff work closely with parents in a team approach. Newsletters informing families of topics of interest, events and day care news are prepared at regular intervals throughout the year.

Our centre is proud to implement and participate in a quality assurance evaluation process on an annual basis. The evaluation manual measures quality standards related to health, safety and nutrition, physical environment, professional development, relationships with families and the community, interaction between staff and children, administration and the curriculum. This evaluation tool, administered by all staff members, provides us with an opportunity to identify and implement steps to ensure the delivery of quality child care services.

Food

The centre provides a variety of meals and snacks that are planned to promote healthy eating. The food is prepared daily at the centre by a staff cook. Snacks and midday meals are prepared following the Canada's Food Guide while observing medical and cultural needs of all children.
