City offering numerous March Break activities

Looking for some fun activities to keep your family busy this March Break? The City of Cornwall has you covered!

The City’s Parks and Recreation Department is offering a range of healthy and engaging programs and activities this March Break. The list includes public skates and swims, day camps, sports and arts workshops and much more.

“Our offering of March Break programs and activities has something for everyone,” said Lorne Taillon, Leisure Arts Coordinator. “Spaces are still available for a number of our workshops however residents are encouraged to register soon as space is limited.”

Registration for all March Break activities will be taken in person at the Benson Centre or the Aquatic Centre. For additional information on these programs, please call the Benson Centre at (613) 938-9898.

Consider registering your children for one of the following programs:

African Drumming Circle Workshop
Thursday March 13
Two Sessions to choose from:
Time: 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Ages 5 - 8 Years
Time: 2:45 p.m. - 3:45 p.m. Ages 9 - 12 Years
Cost: $10.00/participant
Come out and experience a fun and exciting one-hour African Drumming Circle, with Jody of The Rhythm Room where all participants have their own Jembe drum and are fully engaged as a group. The children will be engaged as they practice African and World Rhythm Ensembles, Fun Team Building Games, and challenging Brain Gym Exercises. The greatest part of the African Drumming Circle is it requires no experience! The children will have the experience of playing on a large Native Pow Wow Drum, a large 32” Asian Gong, and finish the session with a “Survivor Theme” where they utilize their skills and create their own rhythm! Don’t miss out on this unique experience to meet new people and be part of one big team!


Youth Pick-Up Hockey
Tuesday March 11th & Thursday March 13th
The City of Cornwall is offering pick-up hockey during the March Break.  Games are scheduled on Tuesday March 11th and Thursday March 13th in IP, Novice, Atom, Peewee and Bantam Divisions.  Players must pre-register to play and spaces are limited to 18 skaters and 2 goalies.   Players are asked to bring full equipment, one white and one dark coloured jersey.  Teams will be made at the start of each hour.  Participants will play in division they are currently playing.


Minute to Win It Monday - Monday March 10th
Time: 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. Cost: $13.00 Ages: 6 – 12 years
Needed: Dry indoor shoes and water bottle. 
On your mark, get set, GO!  Participants will put their timing
to the test and try to beat the clock in a number of fun activities and challenges. 


Zumba Kids with Jasmine - Wednesday March 12th
Time: 10:30 – 12:00 p.m. Cost: $13.00 Ages: 5 – 12 years
Needed: Dry indoor shoes and water bottle.
Participants should expect a high energy session of movin’ and groovin’ during this workshop. The class will include a full Zumba Workout as well as instruction in other popular dances!


Youth Pick Up Soccer – Wednesday March 12th 
Time: 1:15 – 2:15 p.m. Cost: $5.00 Ages 7 – 9 years
Time: 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. Cost: $5.00 Ages 10 – 12 years
Needed: Shin Pads, Dry indoor shoes, No Cleats!!
It’s game time, see you on the pitch.  


St. Patrick’s Day Crafts - Friday March 14th
Time: 10:30 – 12:00 noon Cost: $13.00 Ages: 5 – 12 years
Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!! From leprechauns to lucky charms we will celebrate everything Irish. Look for arts and crafts, fun and games and don’t forget to wear your Green!!


Public Swimming
The Aquatic Centre will play host to a variety of family, preschool and leisure swims during the March Break! Click here for the March Break swim schedule


Public Skating
Enjoy a free skate with the family this March Break at the Benson Centre (Pad 2) from 1 pm - 2:30 pm daily, from Monday, March 10 to Friday, March 14.


Stick & Puck March Break Skates
Need more ice time?  Work on the fundamentals of hockey and improve your skills.  The Stick & Puck program is designed to enable skaters in full hockey gear, the opportunity to work on passing, puck control and skating drills.  An adult or coach must accompany all youth on the ice (Adult to Child ratio: 1 to 2).  Youth ages 5 - 14.  Full hockey equipment mandatory for all youth, helmets mandatory for adults. Cost $5.00
