Our Lady Peace and Chantal Kreviazuk to Headline Cornwall Lift-Off in July

May 19, 2010

Three of Canada's most popular musical acts will be coming to Cornwall for this year's Lift-Off waterfront festival. Chantal Kreviazuk, Our Lady Peace and Randy Bachman will headline the four-day festival in Lamoureux Park, to be joined by Crash Parallel, Lighthouse and Jarvis Church (lead singer of the Philosopher Kings).

"Every year, we strive to surpass the previous year" said Festival Chair Chris Savard. "I think we have certainly achieved that goal this year with three top-notch popular acts. We will also have a bigger stage to better showcase our headliners, opening acts and local bands."

Thursday Night - Our Lady Peace
Alt-rock band Our Lady Peace gets the Festival off to a rocking start on Thursday night. The band has sold millions of albums worldwide, won four Juno Awards, and won ten MuchMusic Video Awards - the most ever awarded to any artist. A great group of bands will warm up the stage for OLP, including the Waxbills and Crash Parallel.

Friday Night - Randy Bachman
The legendary Randy Bachman, formerly of the Guess Who and Bachman Turner Overdrive, headlines Friday night. Local group Winston Marley joins hometown star Joel Drouin (bandleader for American Idol) and Canadian group Lighthouse as opening acts.

Saturday Night - Chantal Kreviazuk
Chantal Kreviazuk is a platinum-selling singer songwriter whose songs have been popular throughout the world. Local acts The General Electryk and Graham Greer are joined by Jarvis Church (lead singer of the Philosopher Kings) as opening acts for Ms. Kreviazuk.

In addition to a midway, kidzone, fireworks other events, Lift-Off will also host the Ontario Strongman Championships. Two days of competition will see the strongest men vying to qualify for the Canadian Strongman Championships later this summer.

The success of the Cornwall Lift-Off festival has grown considerably from its modest beginnings in 1994. It is Ontario's only hot-air balloon festival, and this year 25 hot air balloon teams will fly over the city. This year's festival will be held July 8-11th in Cornwall's downtown Lamoureux Park, and it is anticipated that the 2010 festival will attract significantly more than the 50,000 spectators who attended the 2009 event.
