Cornwall Civic Complex welcomes 16,000 Witnesses

June 02, 2011

In June the Cornwall Civic Complex will host the annual Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses, which will see 16,000 delegates attend over four weekends.

“We are delighted to host this important event once again ”, said Janice Robinson, Facilities Rental Coordinator with the City.

The first English-speaking convention will take place on June 3-5 and will see over 4,300 people attend. A second English-speaking convention for another 4300 Witnesses takes place from June 10 to June 12.

The following two conventions will welcome 7,600 French-speaking members of the Christian congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. These will be held June 17-19 and June 24-26.

The gatherings in Cornwall are part of 42 district conventions taking place in 22 cities throughout Canada. Complete conventions will be held, apart from English and French, in Arabic, Chinese, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Quebec Sign Language.

The projected attendance is 147,000.

This year’s convention theme is “Let God’s Kingdom Come!”

Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that the request for God’s Kingdom in the model prayer, recorded in the Bible at Matthew 6:10 (also known as the Lord’s Prayer or the Our Father), has profound meaning. They also believe that the answer to that prayer will bring significant changes to the earth and mankind.

The Witnesses’ convention program promises intriguing details from the Bible’s explanation of such developments.

Strengthening one’s faith in the reality of that Kingdom will be the focus of the program.

The public is invited to attend any session or the entire program at the Cornwall Civic Complex.

All morning sessions will begin at 9:20 am. The afternoon sessions as follows: Friday, 1:50 pm; Saturday, 1:25 pm; and Sunday, 1:30 pm.

There is no admission fee. Conventions of Jehovah’s Witnesses are supported entirely by voluntary donations.
